What is Mindfulness? - Greater Boston MBSR Programs - Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Natick & Woburn

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a practice that enables you to access your own inner resources and take better care of yourself by exploring the connection between mind and body.

It involves paying close attention to whatever is happening in your life with a sense of interest and curiosity, and nonjudgmentally.

Mindfulness is also about living in the present. Most of the time we are thinking about the past or preoccupied with thoughts about the future, rather than experiencing what is occurring in our lives as it is happening.

By paying attention to the here and now without judgment, it becomes increasingly possible to live life more fully and face life's challenges with a greater sense of acceptance and ease.

"Simply put, mindfulness is moment-to-moment  awareness. It is cultivated by purposefully paying attention to things we ordinarily never give a moment's thought to. It is a systematic approach to developing new kinds of control and wisdom in our lives...Cultivating mindfulness can lead to the discovery of deep realms  of relaxation, calmness, and insight within yourself."
Jon Kabat-Zinn, from Full Catastrophe Living

"My own experience suggests that the willingness to stop and be present leads to seeing and relating to circumstances and events with more clarity and directness. Out of this directness seems to emerge deeper understanding or insight...Such insight allows us the possibility of choosing responses most called for by the situation rather than those reactively driven by fear, habit or long-standing training."
Saki Santorelli, from Heal Thy Self

Cindy is a wonderful instructor. Not only is she an expert in MBSR, but also an expert in delivering the material in a caring, compassionate, and thoughtful way. She tailors the program to the unique needs of each student and does a fantastic job bringing the attendees together...I now use the mindfulness tools in many areas of my daily living.
